Nineteen-year-old Summer Rios hails from Brunswick, Ohio, a Pizza Hut Manager with dreams of paying her bills and leaving her pizza cutter behind.

โ€œThis is the โ€˜make itโ€™ or โ€˜break itโ€™ moment,โ€ the singer said backstage while speaking to her mother virtually over the phone.

The nervous and smiling teen toldย Judgesย Simon Cowell,ย Howie Mandel,ย Sofia Vergara, andย Heidi Klumย that sheโ€™d been singing since age 4, though she had yet to sing for an audience as big asย AGT. Rios hoped to put herself out there more โ€œand not have so much anxiety.โ€

โ€œNow itโ€™s just me, so Iโ€™m working a lot of morning-to-closes, trying to still pay my bills and stuff,โ€ the singer continued. โ€œIโ€™m hoping this will get me out of pizza cutting and pizza making.โ€

Rios has already amassed hundreds of thousands of followers between her Instagram and TikTok profiles. Some of her content โ€” including her cover of Lewis Capaldiโ€™s โ€œHold Me While You Waitโ€ and Olivia Rodrigoโ€™s โ€œDrivers Licenseโ€ โ€” garnered millions of views over the past few years.ย Her rendition of Bishop Briggsโ€™ โ€œRiverโ€ also went viral.

In July 2022, Rios toldย The Hype Magazineย that she grew up in talent shows and local singing competitions, persuaded by her friends in middle school to create a social media account devoted to her talent.

โ€œMusic is a very serious thing to me. Iโ€™ve grown up singing, writing, and playing instruments my entire life, so it has always been in my environment,โ€ Rios told the outlet. โ€œIt hits a certain part of my heart and makes me feel in a comfort state of mind when writing or singing.โ€

For herย AGTย audition, Rios sang Zach Bryanโ€™s 2022 hit โ€œSomething in the Orangeโ€ (a familiar hit forย Yellowstoneย fans). The Grammy Award-nominated single went four-time platinum and peaked at number one on the Billboard charts, including Hot Country Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.

Cowell called it โ€œa great, great choice of songโ€ for Riosโ€™ audition, helping the teen get four yes votes.

Mandel added heโ€™d much rather see Rios pursue singing over slicing pizza.

โ€œI feel like we just got a peek at what you can do,โ€ said Mandel. โ€œAnd you needed to open this door a crack, and youโ€™ve opened it more than a crack to just take off.โ€

Klum told the Ohio teen she โ€œloved it,โ€ noting the โ€œbeautiful, beautiful toneโ€ of her voice.

โ€œTo me, you sounded a little bit like you swallowed Rihanna,โ€ Klum continued. Vergara echoed Klumโ€™s critique by calling the contestantโ€™s voice โ€œspectacular.โ€

โ€œYou belong on the stage; donโ€™t waste more time,โ€ said Vergara. โ€œLive your best life; donโ€™t be scared anymore.โ€

Rios flashed a heart sign with her hands to the Judges before running backstage, screaming and jumping with joy. Before calling her mother to announce her success, she toldย AGTย Hostย Terry Crews, โ€œIโ€™m so done with cutting pizzas.โ€
