A British couple recently celebrated their 83rd wedding anniversary, setting a new record for the longest marriage in the country. Helen and Maurice Kaye, aged 104 and 105, marked the occasion last week with family in Bournemouth.
The couple met when Maurice was a salesman for his fatherโs company, and they have been together for 87 years.
โSo much has changed, but weโre still together, thank God,โ Maurice said. โWe had a wonderful day, entertained by our lovely great-grandchildren. Now Iโm looking forward to the next anniversary.โ
Helen shared that she was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed the celebration held at their home, located 160 kilometers from London.
The couple has two surviving children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Their daughter, Tina, described them as an inspiration, expressing how blessed the family feels to have them.
Tina also mentioned that her mother is a stylish woman who visits the hairdresser twice a week and gets a manicure every Friday, while her father has a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.
The couple humorously noted that they might be celebrating their 87th anniversary if Helen hadnโt waited for her older sister to marry first.
Maurice managed his fatherโs business in London before joining the fight against the Nazis during World War II. After the war, they moved to Bournemouth and had four children, two of whom survived.
