A popular fitness influencer and her date were shot and killed by her jealous estranged husband â who was then killed by an off-duty police officer, according to police and her family.
Gloria Zamora, a 40-year-old mother of seven with over 150,000 Instagram followers, was gunned down late Saturday along with her date, Hector Garduno, a father of four. The shooting happened in the parking lot of a sushi restaurant in Fontana, California, leaving behind a total of 11 children between the two victims.
Police say the shooter was Zamoraâs second husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga. The tragedy happened just days after Zamora revealed on her podcast, HERizon, that she was leaving him.
âThey were going through a divorce, that led to this,â Police Officer Steve Reed with the Fontana Police Department told ABC 7.
âWe donât know how he knew where she was at, but apparently, she had been at the restaurant for approximately an hour prior to the shooting,â Officer Reed said.
Several off-duty law enforcement officers were nearby when the shooting broke out, including an off-duty San Bernardino County sheriffâs deputy who was driving past the shopping center and saw the incident unfold, according to Reed.
The deputy quickly made a U-turn, got out of his vehicle, and confronted the suspect, Reed said. Lizarraga was shot and killed by the deputy, whose identity has not yet been made public.
A GoFundMe says that Zamora leaves behind seven children, ranging in age from 8 to 24, who now face a future without their motherâs love, support, and guidance. Her daughter Jazlynne Zamora set up the fundraiser. She described her Mom as âMore than just a mother, Gloria was a beacon in her community, empowering and uplifting women by reminding them of their strength and worth.â
