Since Donald Trump took office on January 20, he has been making many changes. He has done a lot of work regarding the US’s trade agreements with other countries. Other areas he has been focusing on are drugs, crime, and, of course, immigration.

The administration has been deporting a lot of migrants out of the country. A lot of people were sent to El Salvador’s mega-jail through the evocation of a wartime law. The people deported did not have the opportunity for any legal proceedings. With an offer of a ‘free flight’ to non-US citizens, as well as an ‘exit bonus’ to incentivize leaving.

Trump and his administration have been trying to revoke birthright citizenship, which is the 14th Amendment of the American Constitution. The amendment says, ‘all persons born or naturalised in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens’.

The executive order that the administration is trying to pass is that children born in the US to parents who do not have permanent residency, such as illegal immigrations or those visiting the country on a tourist, student, or temporary work visa, should not be given citizenship.

The decision was blocked by three judges in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington.

Now Donald Trump took to social media, his platform Truth Social to urge the Supreme Court to reconsider their decision. He pointed out that the right was given at the end of the Civil War to protect ‘the babies of slaves’ and in this day and age, is not needed.
