Edward Pettifer, stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, the former nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry, has been identified as one of the 15 victims of the January 1 attack in ย New Orleans. Pettifer, 31, a Chelsea resident, died from blunt force injuries after Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Legge-Bourke, who married Edwardโs father, Charles Pettifer, in 1999, worked as a nanny for William and Harry during their parentsโ separation from 1993 to 1999. She remains close to the princes, attending their weddings and serving as godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markleโs son, Archie.
King Charles expressed condolences to the Pettifer family, while Prince William shared his sorrow on Instagram, stating, โCatherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all those affected by this horrific attack.โ
Edwardโs family released a statement through the police, describing their devastation: โEdward was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to many. We will miss him terribly and ask for privacy as we grieve.โ
The attack, which killed 15 people, occurred around 3:15 a.m. local time when Jabbar, a Texas resident, drove a Ford pickup truck through a crowd. Jabbar died in a shootout with police at the scene. The FBI is investigating potential connections between Jabbar and terrorist organizations.
